Back Flip Tutorial

This tutorial will instruct you the way to perform a back flip on the trampoline easily and safely. With step by step teachings along with common beginner mistakes and how to fix them, you will be performing back flip is pretty much no time at all! Be Safe and have Fun!

Step 1: Before you go for a back flip, practice jumping on your back, and then kick your feet above your head almost like a backward somersault and try to land on your feet. This may be rather tough at first, but keep attempting it. If you can't quite make the full rotation then make sure you pull your feet in in midair and push your hands back after you become airborne from your back. A bad habit is to flip a little off axis. Be sure that you're looking directly back and not over your shoulder when you bounce. This can result in really screwy backflips.
Step 2: To complete a back flip, you are going to have to just "go for it" sooner or later. Begin by getting a solid good bounce where you feel comfortable. Don't forget, you don't have to go huge to perform a back flip. Also, be sure that you are starting close to the edge of the trampoline so that there is a good amount of room on the trampoline behind you. During the bounce before you are going to back flip, position both your hands back slightly behind your back you so you can thrust them backwards and up over your head to get lots of flipping strength. Once you leave the trampoline bed, thrust your hips forward and up towards the sky, throw your hands up and backwards, tilt you head backwards a little bit, then tuck up by pulling you knees to your chest. Like the frontflip, only maintain your tuck for a split second until you're about two thirds to 3/4 of the way around. Then unbend up your body and put your hands in front of you. From here you should be able to see the trampoline bed and where you are going to land.
Step 3: One common mistake for people just learning to back flip is that they move back significantly in their backflip. This is why I had you start close to the edge in step 1. To prevent this from happening to you, you must be more patient in your back flip. That means that you cannot start flipping too early in the jump. Starting your flip too early makes your momentum move backwards and sometimes off the tramp instead of upwards in a beautiful, high backflip. However, simply attempt to land in the same spot as where you began your back flip. (A little bit back is alright) At first, backflips can be pretty scary and intimidating, but once you land the first few flips, you will find that they're actually very easy!

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and that is has instructed you how to perform a flip safely. If you follow the above article carefully, you should have no problem learning a backflip.
